I simply could not let today pass by without mentioning that our wonderful Queen is now officially our longest reigning monarch! Today, at approximately 17h30 she surpasses Queen Victoria's reign and Queen Elizabeth II will have been reigning for 23,226 days, sixteen hours and around 30 minutes according to BBC's report this morning. Isn't that just marvellous? Isn't she marvellous? Yip - I'm a huge fan of the royal family :)
These early autumn days here in Devon are beautiful! Mornings start off cool and misty but that soon clears up and we have had some lovely sunny {breezy} afternoons. I mention breezy because it is perfect for getting laundry dry.
I'm taking full advantage of this right now as I know soon the winter rains will arrive and I'll be hanging laundry on radiator dryers clotheshorses and any other available place I can find. Laundry definitely becomes a bit more of a chore in winter.
I've been adding a few autumnal touches around my home. As I mentioned before I have two pots of mums flanking my front door...
I found the most lovely autumn themed wreath a few months ago and TK Maxx but need to get a suction hook in order to hang it on the front door.
My welsh dresser is looking sweet, I have had to get rid of quite a few of my teapots as I have less space to display them in this house, but I am pleased with the ones I have kept and with this little display.
The fireplace mantle is adorned with my handcrafted cushions and bunting...
the praying angel was a going away gift from a friend. When the candles are lit at night she is all aglow and looks beautiful.
On the needles at the mo ...
I am busy with a lovely little project. It's called A Little Ruffle - a free pattern off Ravelry. It will make a very attractive addition to my winter wardrobe. I'm using Drops Alpaca and it is so soft! Notice the bamboo needles. I have been knitting for years and years and most of my needles are the metal/steel ones. But all of a sudden I have really started to hate the way they feel when I use them. The yarn does not seem to glide nicely, they slip out of the stitches way to easily, its all just ugggghhh! So I have decided to start replacing all my steel/metal needles with bamboos. they really are lovely to knit with - there we go - a bit of useless information lol.
Have a lovely Wednesday all... see you back here shortly.
joining Ginny today for Yarn Along.
Its such a great achievement isn't it, reigning for so long, wonderful. Love the Autumnal touches in your home, they are looking really pretty.
ReplyDeleteI love A Little Ruffle - may be simply perfect for the yarn I just got. I have knitted lots with Drops Alpaca - just gorgeous. I love just feeling it.
ReplyDeleteI love the Queen too! I have just ordered a DVD from the library called When The Queen Came To Town. It is about the 60 day tour of Australia and New Zealand that the Queen made in 1954. I am so looking forward to watching it, simply for all the gorgeous 50s fashions. She had so many lovely dresses on that tour.
That DVD sounds fab Jayne - I think I must look it up. I love the 50s fashion too, so elegant.
DeleteLong Live the Queen! We are having a very special tea this afternoon in her honor. :)
ReplyDeleteYour decorations are lovely. I hope you are enjoying your new home!
How lovely Penny! I spent the afternoon running around, I think I would have far preferred to have a tea fit for a queen :)
DeleteLovely picture of our glorious queen. I love the autumnal colour of your Mums, your dresser looks lovely xx
ReplyDeleteThank you Cheryl and thank you for leaving a comment. I love visiting new-to-me blogs and I am off to visit yours :)
DeleteCongratulations to your Queen...
ReplyDeleteAll those days, and years, and she is still lovely.
Loving your Autumn touches... It is Autumn! And it is time for Autumn colors. And I feel this so much, that I had to do a tiny post today, on this very topic. :-)
Oh and Ravelry, must be world-wide. How wonderful. I'm not a knitter, but my daughter, daughter-in-law and a grand daughter are.
Gentle Autumnal hugs,
Tessa
And must say, I'm so happy to have found you, on Instagram!!!

Little Ruffle looks quite snuggly. Should be perfect for wet, cold winter. Your seasonally decorating is lovely. I always mean to do some, but the days simply slip away too fast.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog, and that knit is beautiful! Marked on Ravelry in my library!
ReplyDeleteThank you Diana :)
DeleteCongratulations to Queen Elizabeth! That is such a sweet picture of her. Your project is beautiful, especially in that yarn! :)
ReplyDeleteA lovely and peaceful homemaking post :) And thank you for sharing about the queen! That is interesting that Victoria is no longer the longest reigning and sort of sad in a sentimental way... History has now changed. Have a lovely week!
ReplyDeleteHi Jes, it is kind of sad in a way but how awesome is it to be alive in a time where history is being made! :)
DeleteYour yarn looks so lovely and soft! This is a beautiful picture of the Queen marking her incredible achievement.
ReplyDeleteTotally with you laundrywise - once the weather closes in here in the South West it definitely becomes an issue. I love the look of the alpaca yarn, warm, soft and squooshy unless I am very much mistaken.
ReplyDeleteYou are quite right - it is warm soft and squooshy (great word!) :)
DeleteI am so happy for Elizabeth! God save the queen! Such a pretty project, such a pretty yarn!
ReplyDeleteAlways love looking at your pictures and reading about your life. Congratulations to the Queen. What an accomplishment! Love the autumn touches you've added to your home. I've used bamboo needles for years and I love them. Won't use anything else. Enjoy them!
ReplyDeleteIt is an important time in history isn't it. Your decorations all look very pretty, I hope you are enjoying them, and your yarny project too! xx
ReplyDeleteOh I really like drops alpaca and I much prefer bamboo needles, so am totally with you.
ReplyDeleteI love reading all about your seasonal decorating and always smile at your love for England and all things English. You put us born-in-England people to shame!
ReplyDeleteYou are my go-to blog when I feel the need to be quietly uplifted by the beauty of life, so thank you for that :)
