Spring On Hold...

Oh dear! Spring is but 12 days away and we are set for some more icy weather here in England. It looks like we are going to have some snow in the next few hours and lots of icy temperatures for the next few days.

Along our drive our daffodils are about to burst into bloom, the crocus have already been showing off their beautiful little heads this past week. It all seems a little out of sorts for winter to stubbornly refuse to move on by spreading her white cloak once more :o)

Tomorrow is Mothering Sunday in England. We have some wonderful friends joining us for a special mothers day lunch - to be prepared by our daughters. Isn't that lovely?

An interesting bit of Mothering Sunday trivia for you - This was a Christian holiday celebrated throughout Europe, which fell on the 4th Sunday of Lent. In the 16th century people returned to their mother church, the main church or cathedral in the area for a service to be held on 'Laetare Sunday'. Anyone who did this was said to have gone 'a-mothering.' Domestic servants (think Downton Abby here) were given the day off to go back to their mother churches and to visit with their mothers and families. It was a time when they could all gather together, since on most other days they were prevented from meeting due to conflicting working hours.

So there we go - a bit about the origins of Mothers Day - and it all started right here :o). I know that most of the rest of the world celebrates in May, but here in England we tend to stick with tradition. So to all moms everywhere...

Blessings in Christ,
