Yarn Along - Summer Notebook

It is another wet and grey day in England. Perfect knitting weather. Somehow I now have three projects on the go. I'm really not sure how that happens, I suspect it has something to do with the love of yarn, the ever-growing 'Things-I-want-to-create' list, mixed with a little stash busting necessity knitting. Either way - I have something to keep busy with whatever my knitty mood ;o)

I thought I would share the cowl that I am busy with at the moment. I am really enjoying working with chunky yarn at the moment. It knits up really quickly and is lovely and warm. I found this variegated yarn in a little store nearby and thought that it would be great knitted up using a textured stitch pattern {this is moss stitch} to create a great big warm cowl for the winter months.

I'm not sure I am entirely in love with the colourway. I have to say that I think it looked better all rolled up in it's ball. The solid lines of colour are just not appealing to my eye! I am pressing on in the hopes that the finished article will look better in it's wrapped-around-the-neck position.

Reading - James Dobson's 'Emotions, Can You Trust Them?' - a very interesting read. This was a recommended book for me to read for one of our KONOS unit studies. I am finding Mr. Dobson's insights to our emotions fascinating. The other book is the first in the 'Left Behind' series which is a fictional supposition based on scripture on the end times. Written by two well-known theologians, I am finding it a gripping read! I am looking up the scripture passages mentioned in the book as I go along and really enjoying reading parts of the Bible that I have not read before.

  1. Your yarn looks nice, but I do not know how it is when you have it in your hands. I'm curious what the end result will be.
The weather here in the Netherlands is a little like the weather with you, but today it's suddenly warm and I have a headache. Regarding the weather so far it is a weird summer.

  2. Moss stitch is one of my favourite stitches - firm and squichy at the same time :) I hope you love it more when it's finished, I love the colours together :)

  3. I think the colors are actually pleasing. I do wonder what it will look like all wrapped up. Stash busting, a love of yarn and wanting to knit everything are things I too share.

  7. Moss Stitch--I love it knitted up but mine never looks as tight or lovely as yours. I love the colorway you have used--it will look lovely on! I, too, wish I could send you some of our heat and sun. But there is something to being able to sit indoors all cuddled up with knitting and a book that I find so relaxing. I can't wait to hear your thoughts on the "Left Behind" series. I never thought to look up the scripture presented in the books--that is a great way to review the Bible. happy wednesday!

  8. You know, I haven't knit with chunky yarn in a while but seeing your beautiful cowl, I need to stash dive and cast on something just like your WIP!

  10. It's a shame for some reason I can't see your images or links. I'll try again later.

Chunky yarn is so much fun to work with as it grows so quickly. Rowan do amazing big wool thats soft and cuddly and really cool colours. But I have so many sweaters on my wish list to get yarn for.

Interesting to read about your activity with cans and string...that's the kind of thing we did when we were kiddies.

I'll be back for another look later.
    Have a good da.

  11. I love the orchid in your first photo! Beautiful! I have to say I rarely use variegated wool as I am never happy with how it looks once it's not a ball! I started the Left Behind series years ago but never finished as I ended up with horrible nightmares. I was a teenager though and I wonder if I would go better with them now?

  13. From here your yarn looks very pretty! I often find that I prefer the variegated yarn in a stocking stitch pattern, just because then the colour doesn't do weird things on the pearl bumps ;)
