Yarn Along - Spring Notebook

Although I have not posted on what has been going on on the knitting front here at 'Under An English Sky', that does not mean that I have not been busy with a project or two. In fact my Oaklet Shawl has been put on hold for just a little while as I have been busy with this cute little jumpers and hats for newborns. Our church contributes to a charity in Africa - we knit for the 'Fish and Chips Babies'. Often the native mums come into hospital to give birth to their precious babies but have nothing to dress them in to take them home! These little children are wrapped up in newspaper and the new mums take their babe's home - wrapped up like fish and chips. It is just heartbreaking for me to think of any mum having to take her precious bundle home like that.

Three little hats and two little jumpers done so far. I would like to make this a monthly contribution. Perhaps three sets a month. They are so quick and easy to knit up and are a great way of using up yarn.

On the reading front, I was blessed with a Kindle from my husband and daughters for my birthday a few weeks ago. I am loving it! Although I have to say that nothing beats the smell and feel of a new book. I will never be a 100% Kindle Convert - LOL. I am reading 'Afternoon Tea Mysteries: A Collection of Cozy Mysteries' by Anne Austin, which bought from the Kindle Store. I have just started this book and am finding it light and pleasant reading. My 14 year old daughter knitted the lovely red cover that you see for my Kindle. I just love it! I love the raised pattern that she has used and that deep jewel red is gorgeous!  That about wraps up this weeks Yarn Along - happy knitting and reading all.

POSTSCRIPT: Links for the patterns (free on Ravelry)  for the newborn hat and the pullover. I'm not sure the exact charity that our church sends our knits to, but I have included the address of Mowbray Maternity Hospital in Cape Town. They always welcome and accept direct donations.
